This Tales from a Teacher’s Heart movie comes from Joe Hendershott, author of Reaching the Wounded Student.  In this tale, he tells the story of his relationship with a student that has spanned over 20 years. By being mindful of the emotional state of his student, he creates a bond that allows him to provide guidance past their time together in the classroom, enriching both of their lives.

Early in my career, I was teaching social studies and coaching football in a small rural high school in Ohio. We had family, fathers, and football night watching Monday night football. We prepared the popcorn and set the television up in the school library. What I hadn't prepared for was Chad. He asked if he could sit and watch the game with me because his dad wasn't there. That was the beginning of a relationship that has spanned 20 years.
